The ICon: Incident-Conceptualization Learning Exercise.
Experience. When faced with life's great challenges, there is no better teacher. But how can one gather experience for a perceived event?
At the heart of every incident-based program is the Incident-Conceptualization Exercise, or: ICon. The ICon is a scenario-specific, team-oriented event that offers an entertaining, informative and competitive way to develop or test protocols, enhance planning skills and organizational integrity.
Whatever the adventure, every ICon Exercise has the following components in common:
- Situationally-Specific Scenario Generation
- Tabletop Action Strategy Development
- GamePlayTM Strategy Application
- Debriefing and Recommendation
The ICon begins with questions: What do you wish to accomplish? What do you want to learn or test? Our experienced ICon Event Facilitators will work to understand these fundamental issues and, together with your organization, formulate event goals. Scenarios are created to reflect goals and objectives.
Participants are presented with planning tools and develop strategies for an appropriate scenario solution. Planning elements include: leadership chain-of-command, supply acquisition, personnel needs and deployment, personal security, communications and technology requirements.
The ICon GamePlayTM is the acting out of a simulated event. Strategies are applied along with hands-on skills to "solve" a scenario simulation. GamePlayTM simulations can be as simple as "fallen climber", sudden onsite medical emergency, or irate customer scenario...or as elaborate as a trip to a deserted island and space travel.
The ICon is a way to test the effectiveness of protocol development and hands-on skills acuity before a real event takes place. An Incident-Conceptualization Exercise can take place in as little as three hours...but the knowledge gained from this unique learning experience can last for a lifetime. It is truly the science of extremes and the art of preparation.
